Electricity is the highest grade, most versatile energy available. We use it to power motors, run pumps, and heat and cool our homes, and provide light.

Yet, despite its versatility, electric energy has one drawback. It can't be stored. The simple fact is electricity must be generated when Consumers demand it.

Western Iowa Power Cooperative must have ready enough electricity to meet the period of highest demand. If we can reduce the peak usage, if we can even out the demand of electricity, it means we all will benefit. The most need comes during a "peak period" usually from 5 to 9 PM.
WIPCO's load management program of $witch Makes Cents offers Members a chance to help reduce peak demands for electricity with little effect on their lifestyle.
Our $witch Makes Cents program means lower electric rates to the Member in return for allowing the Cooperative to control such equipment as heat pumps, electric water heaters, air conditioners and electric heat. WIPCO has installed more than 1,000 load control switches in our service area. Members report they have experienced little or no inconvenience with $witch Makes Cents. Most Members say they don't realize their equipment is being controlled. By controlling load use, WIPCO realizes savings on our wholesale power costs allowing us to pass that savings to our Members through the lower, $witch Makes Cents rates.

In this program you can help hold down the cost of your home heating, shop heating, electric water heating and air conditioning. We encourage you to contact your Cooperative to find out more about the $witch Makes Cents program and how to reduce your electric rate.
